Three Baccarat Bet Types – Which One Is Yours?

Baccarat is a straightforward game – there are only three possible outcomes per hand.

Banker
1:1

Bet on Banker to win. Pays 1:1 minus 5% commission. This is the lowest house edge bet in baccarat – just 1.06%. The top choice for players who know their stats.

House Edge: 1.06%
Player
1:1

Bet on Player to win. Full 1:1 payout with no commission. The house edge is slightly higher than Banker but still very low compared to most other casino games.

House Edge: 1.24%
Tie
8:1

A bet that both Banker and Player will finish with the same point total. The payout is an attractive 8:1, but the odds of winning are very low. Best used as a small side bet rather than your main wager.

House Edge: 14.36%

Expert Tip: Most experienced baccarat players at Rich 1988 focus solely on the Banker bet, or alternate between Banker and Player. The Tie bet works as occasional entertainment, not as a long-term strategy.

Understanding the Baccarat Roadmap – An Essential Tool for Serious Players

The roadmap helps you identify patterns from previous hand results. Here is an example of a Big Road commonly seen at Rich 1988 tables.

Big Road example — each circle represents one hand:

Banker (B) Player (P) Tie (T)
Big Road

Records every hand in a grid format — each column starts fresh when the result changes. The most basic and easiest roadmap for any baccarat player to read.

Bead Plate

Records each hand sequentially from left to right, top to bottom. Helps you scan the full hand history at a glance.

Big Eye Boy

A secondary roadmap that indicates whether the current result follows or breaks an established pattern.

Cockroach Pig

The most complex tertiary roadmap, revealing deeper patterns based on the previous two columns. Used by veteran baccarat players.

Please Note: The roadmap is a statistical tool based on past results. Each baccarat hand is an independent event and is not influenced by previous hands. Use the roadmap as a reference guide, not a guarantee.

Baccarat Strategies Used by Veteran Rich 1988 Players

No strategy can change the underlying mathematics — but a sound strategy can help you manage your bankroll and play longer.

1
Focus on the Banker Bet

It's not the most glamorous strategy, but statistically it is the most effective. The Banker house edge is just 1.06% — the lowest of any casino game. Even with the 5% commission, Banker still outperforms Player in the long run. Many experienced players at Rich 1988 bet exclusively on Banker throughout their entire session.

2
1-3-2-6 Strategy

A popular positive betting system among baccarat players. You bet 1 unit, then 3, then 2, then 6 units on consecutive wins. When you lose, you reset to 1 unit. The method aims to maximize profits during a winning streak while limiting losses during a losing streak. Well-suited for standard tables at Rich 1988.

3
Pattern Tracking Strategy

Using the Big Road roadmap to identify whether Banker or Player is on a streak. Many Malaysian players at Rich 1988 will follow a running streak — if Banker wins three times in a row, they keep betting Banker until the pattern shifts. Keep in mind: this is an observation-based strategy, not a science.

4
Money Management Strategy

The single most important strategy — and the most overlooked. Set a win limit and a loss limit before you sit down. For example, if you deposit RM 500, decide to stop when you are up RM 250 or down RM 300. This discipline is what separates serious players from those who consistently lose on platforms like Rich 1988.

5
Paroli Strategy (Positive Progression)

The opposite of Martingale — double your bet when you win, return to your base bet when you lose. This carries less risk than Martingale. Set a cap on how many times you will double up (typically 3 consecutive wins) before returning to your base bet, even if the winning streak continues.

6
Avoid the Tie Bet

This is more of a piece of advice than a strategy: do not make Tie your main bet. While the 8:1 payout looks attractive, a house edge of 14.36% means you will lose money faster over time. Use the Tie bet as an occasional small wager for added excitement — not as a strategy.

History & Culture of Baccarat in Malaysia – Why This Game Has Endured

For many Malaysians, baccarat is more than just a game – it is part of an entertainment culture deeply rooted across generations. It is no surprise that when you speak to a veteran baccarat player at Rich 1988, they often share how they first learned the game from family members or friends when they were young. It is easy to pick up yet deep enough to keep players coming back year after year.

Technically speaking, baccarat is one of the fairest casino games for players. Its low house edge — especially on the Banker bet — means your money lasts longer compared to most other casino games. This is a big reason why baccarat players tend to play longer sessions with larger bankrolls: they know the odds aren't stacked heavily against them.

At Rich 1988, we don't just offer baccarat tables — we provide a complete ecosystem. This includes real-time statistics on every table, a roadmap updated after each hand, side bets such as Player Pair and Banker Pair that add an extra layer of excitement, and a live chat feature with the dealer for a more interactive experience.

One aspect many new players overlook is the importance of table selection. At Rich 1988, not all tables are created equal — bet limits, game pace, and dealer style all vary. Newer players may feel more at ease at a slower Mini Baccarat table, while seasoned players who prefer fast-paced action might gravitate toward Speed Baccarat. Take some time to explore a few tables before settling on your favourite.

In terms of payouts, Rich 1988 processes baccarat winnings withdrawals promptly. You can deposit and withdraw using Touch 'n Go eWallet, GrabPay, DuitNow, FPX (Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks), Boost, and ShopeePay – all payment methods Malaysians use in their everyday lives. The minimum withdrawal is RM 30 and is typically processed within 5 to 30 minutes.

VIP Programme Rich 1988 rewards active baccarat players. Every ringgit you wager earns VIP points that move you up from Bronze all the way to Diamond. VIP players enjoy higher cashback rates, higher table limits, and a dedicated account manager on hand for any queries or special requests.

Responsible Gaming at the Baccarat Table

FAQ – Baccarat at Rich 1988

The questions our baccarat players ask most often.

For new players, we recommend starting with Standard Live Baccarat or Mini Baccarat. Both tables have low minimum bets (RM 10 and RM 1 respectively), a comfortable pace to help you get familiar, and a straightforward interface. Avoid Speed Baccarat and Baccarat VIP until you have a solid grasp of how the game works.

At the Standard Baccarat, Speed Baccarat, Baccarat VIP, and Baccarat Squeeze tables at Rich 1988, a standard 5% commission applies to Banker bet winnings. This means if you bet RM 100 on Banker and win, you receive RM 95 (after the RM 5 commission). However, we also offer No Commission Baccarat tables where no commission is charged – instead, a Banker win totalling 6 pays out at only 50%.

Baccarat is a game played between two hands: Banker and Player. Each hand is dealt two cards to start. Card values are counted as follows: 2–9 are worth their face value, 10, J, Q, K are worth 0, and A is worth 1. Only the last digit counts — so 15 becomes 5, and 20 becomes 0. The hand closest to 9 wins. A hand that totals 8 or 9 from the first two cards is called a "Natural" and wins automatically. Third-card rules are applied automatically and handled by the dealer.

Withdrawals at Rich 1988 are typically processed within 5 to 30 minutes depending on your chosen payment method. Touch 'n Go eWallet and DuitNow are usually the fastest – within 5 to 10 minutes. GrabPay and Boost take around 10 to 20 minutes. FPX to bank (Maybank2u, CIMB Clicks) may take up to 30 minutes depending on bank processing times. All withdrawal requests received before 11:00 PM are generally processed the same day.
